Joe Brooks interview for Billboard Korea

geniejoo:

These last 2 weeks have been super busy for me but last week Joe came back to Korea and what a hectic week it was… but worth it and super fun. He is such a good dude and an amazing musician… and so is Matt and Kevin. I miss those dudes so much it’s never enough time when they come here.

  • Joe came on Saturday morning at like 5AM? I got dragged to the airport to greet him, he looked exhausted. But he saw me and was like, “Genie, good to see you.” then gave me a huge hug and I was like “Dude, you have tired eyes and those clothes you are wearing will not help you withstand this horrid weather here.”
  • I had to do some promo work before he came here in the freezing cold but it paid off since the show was about 300+ people AND it was his first solo concert in Korea (See: Joe Brooks Korean slave worker video of me in the freezing cold posting up posters). But Joe knew I suffered cause he saw the video + I let him know haha!
  • My lovely friend Hyang and I got Joe and the dudes Christmas presents which worked out really well luckily, I always had the idea to get Joe a polaroid camera so Hyang and I got him one along with a handmade figurine of “Superman” Joe and “A Reason To Swim” Joe, and some other stuff. Kevin and Matt got handmade mugs and dolls of themselves.
  • The show at V-Hall was nothing short of amazing. The fans band together and threw confetti during “Love Lead The Way” and paper airplanes during “Superman” but Joe hadn’t realized what had happened (since he closes his eyes a lot while he performs) till a fan asked, “HOW WAS IT?” and he was like, “How was what?” till he looked around and realized what happened and was like, “OH, WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN? AWESOME.”
  • Santa Joe made a short appearance. Kevin and Matt had matching outfits.
  • I heckle Joe a lot… and I am so glad he puts up with it haha cause during the show he goes, “I only know 5 things in Korean.” and I yell, “You said you were fluent!” (This is due to the Korean tweet I wrote for him telling his Korean fans he was fluent in Korean and wanted to eat rice.) and then he goes, “… I’m not fluent today.”
  • I heckled Kevin by yelling, “PLAY BETTER THAN GOLD!!!” he snickered and proceeded to pretend I never said a word.
  • Korean fans once again looked at me weird before the show due to my phone ring tone being Joe saying, “Genie Joo, pick up your phone ring ring… this is getting awkward. If you could pick up your phone… that would be great.”
  • After the show Joe and the dudes and I were trying to work out going to dinner at my friend’s restaurant but whenever Joe is here his schedule is SUPER packed (another radio show + rehearsals for his second show the next day) Matt looked too stoked about the entire situation till he realized it wasn’t going to work out haha.
  • Joe had a show the next day at some small cafe/bar which was sold out (120 people capacity) which I couldn’t attend due to Korea making it super hard for anyone to purchase tickets w/o your identification number. But it was an acoustic show and apparently it was amazing— and he played “Five Days of Summer”
  • My friend told me Joe brought out the camera we got him on stage and then said to everyone, “this is the best present I have ever gotten…” I was touched that he was stoked on his present.
  • After that show at the M&G— Joe told my friend to tell me hello/we had to do dinner next time when he comes to Korea since it didn’t work out this time.
  • Joe actually had acknowledged me and the interns on National Korean radio haha— he was asked, “Do you speak Korean? You tweet in Korean!” I thought he would joke and go, “Yeah, totally fluent!” but he explained he had “an army of interns all over the world” to help him and had one in Korea who helps him with tweets and trolloling fans.
  • My friend Nana left to go back to Japan on Thursday and I ran into Joe at the airport while dropping her off hahaha.
  • I turned around about to leave the airport and I make eye contact with… Joe? He looked super surprised and then got out of line from check in and came over to chat with me.
  • I gave Joe some film for his camera since he used it all up so quickly (he apparently doesn’t know polaroids come in a 10 pack) and he goes, “I promise to be more careful with these.” What a cute kid.
  • He noticed I didn’t show up for his second show and goes, “I played “Five Days of Summer” for you! Cause you were heckling me last night while I was on stage… and your friend too! I practiced in the hotel that day then played it that day for you!” I told him about my situation and he goes, “YOU SHOULD’VE TOLD ME I WOULD’VE GOTTEN YOU IN.” Hahaha what a good dude.
  • We talked about the last 5 years and the journey he’s been on and how far along he’s come along… we then made a bunch of promises to one another :) and made plans for our dinner/drinking party when he comes back in February (Sony Korea LOVES Joe. They call him their puppy!) we are hoping the next time around we can have adventures here since he never has time to explore the city.
  • Hugs extravangaza and then he was off back to the UK for the holidays :)

Oh, and… Joe may be the Prince of Korea, but Matt is the King, and Kevin is the ruler of hearts…

Well, Joe… I only thought your Social Media intern would see this but… guess not. Hahahaha.
